assemblage

assemblage is a play on the dierence between and an idea / an object and thier representations. As the paper pages were made the layered image being constructed on the left was achieved using wet sheet collage. The pages reflect a design process, in particular that of a puzzle which can only be reconstructed into its primary shape one way. The iregular shapes that make these constructions could only be put together as they were made. Contrasting the irregular shapes on the left pages are images of the regular shapes of a common puzzle on the right pages . A puzzle that by design can only be reconstructed into its primary shape one way.
